Wedding Anniversary

I feel that I must not let the month of July go by without sharing this poem. This is the month of my 10th wedding anniversary and I’d like to commemorate it with something that captures my view of marriage at this point in my life. (more…)
Learning to Count

My two-year-old never ceases to amaze me. I was picking up some scattered toys when I heard her counting from one to ten all by herself. Moments like this can fill a mother’s heart with so much happiness. So I’m marking down July 24, 2008 as a day when my baby reached another milestone in her life.
I’ve been teaching her to count since she was a year old. We would count whenever we’d go up and down the stairs or whenever we put away the toys and stuff that she’d mess up in the living room. The best that she could say was “two, tee, two, tee” (two, three, two, three). Last month she liked to say “eat, nigh, eat, nigh” (eight, nine,eight,nine) everytime she got hold of the phone. (more…)
4 Cinemalaya Awards

Brutus, the full length film directed by Tara Illenberger (my sister) and executive produced by Ronel Baylon (my husband) reaped 4 awards at the 2008 Cinemalaya Independent Film Festival. I feel myself puffing up with pride. My gosh! My mother will be strutting like a peacock again. Yeheeeyy! Yeheeey!
Here’s the list of awards: Jury Prize , Brutus by Tara Illenberger; Best Musical Score , Joey Ayala for Brutus; Best Supporting Actor , Yul Servo for Brutus; Best Cinematography , Jay Abello for Brutus.
For a film that almost never made it to its gala screening, getting four awards is not that bad. Not that bad at all. Just weeks before the film fest, a certain Non-Government Organization, upon the urging of a former American Peace Corps(who has no business meddling in Philippine affairs), threatened CCP with a Temporary Restraining Order.
