Mama, Do You Love Me?

Chronicle Books

My eight-year-old son loves this book. He told me so. He’s asked me to read it to him so many times.  It’s a board book and usually board books are meant to be read to preschool kids.  But I really bought this  with him in mind.

I thought it would be a useful parenting tool. My son, like all children I suppose, is always testing the limits of my patience.  We clash during mealtimes and homework time. Everyday. Most of the time I snap,  raise my voice and nag.  When I do, I feel bad. He looks like a wounded animal and I feel like a big bully. Everytime I lose my calm, I have a hard time changing back into a loving parent.  To mend things between us I would make it a point to read this book to him  at bedtime. It helps me reassure him that no matter what he does and no matter how I react, I will always love him.

This just so echoes my sentiments. I think it may very well be universal, no? This constant loving war between us mothers and our children. Gonna look for this book. You might also want to try Love You Forever by Robert Munsch (sp?). Tearjerker.

Would you believe? I bought our Robert Munsch “Love You Forever” on Amazon. Daw 50cents or something lang bala because it was a used book.

(I still remain perpetually shocked that to Americans “used, in fair condition” actually looks brand new! Bought several used books on Amazon and Ebay and they’d probably sell for brand new here at National Bookstore)

Had the book shipped to my aunt in Texas and she brought it home here to Bacolod. Save gid ko on shipping.

Wonderful wonderful book! You should get one for your kids’ collection.
