Book Finds
April 23rd, 2009. Published under good buys. 9 Comments.

Inspired and determined not to be outdone by Jose Ma. Victor, a friend who has an impressive reading list on Facebook and Friendster, I went to a thrift store to see if I can get some good books for a song. I went in at 12 noon and left Goodwill at around 2PM. For two hours I scanned the shelves and dug into three large bins filled with used and dusty books. I’m very happy with what I found.
Here’s a list of the books I need to finish:
Alias Grace by Margaret Atwood, paperback, $15.00 @ Barnes & Noble, on sale @Amazon for $10.20, only $.99 @ Goodwill
Cat’s Eye by Margaret Atwood, paperback, $14.95 @ Barnes & Noble, on sale @Amazon for $10.17, only $.99 @ Goodwill
Kite Runner by Khaled Hosseini, brand new audio book, unabridged version, 11 CDs, $39.95 @Barnes & Noble, on sale @ Amazon for $30.36, only $1.99 @ Goodwill
The Artist’s Way * A Spiritual Path to Higher Creativity by Julia Cameron, paperback, $16.95 @ Barnes & Noble, on sale @ Amazon for $10.85, only $.99 @ Goodwill
If I had visited the nearest bookstore, Barnes & Noble, I would have spent a total of $86.85 on these four items. If I had gone online and purchased them at Amazon, I would have spent a little less at $61.58. But no — I went to Goodwill and only paid $4.96.
Smart Girl! Yup, that’s me!

Chiq, try to look for Atwood’s The Handmaid’s Tale. aside from its disturbing storyline, there’s an interesting note on the Filipino definition of “salvaging.”
I buy hardbound books during my weekly forays to Booksale and other freestanding secondhand booksellers at shopping malls. Prices range from P50 to P100. There’s the thrill of stumbling on finds at the bottom of the pile.
I also go over book listings on e-bay from time to time and the sellers eventually become friends. I get to practice my knack for making bargains and get add-ons.

thanks for the suggestions.
That was my first Margaret Atwood.

Pro indi na sya sureproof nga ara man gihapon pagbalik mo. It also helps nga you establish friendly relationships with the salespersons.
I could go on and on talking about books…
